Meaning of Ekadashi
Ekadashi refers to the 11th tithi or lunar day. The eleventh date corresponds to an exact phase of the waxing and waning moon.
In the bright half of the lunar month, the Moon will appear about 3/4 full on Ekadashi, and in the dark half of the lunar month, the Moon will appear dark about 3/4 on Ekadashi.
Why fast on Ekadashi
The study of Vedic astronomy has revealed the importance of the position of the moon and its effect on the human mind. Ekadashi, the eleventh day of the lunar fortnight, is said to be favorable for the mind to be in its natural state of wisdom.
So, if we sharpen and orient the mind then there is a possibility of doing better.
Story behind Ekadashi
Ekadashi originated from Lord Vishnu to kill the demon Mura, who had the intention of killing the sleeping Lord Vishnu. Goddess Ekadashi is the protective power of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Vaishnavi is another power of Lord Vishnu and a part of Sapta Matrik
Importance of Ekadashi
While Ekadashi is related to the 11th tithi or lunar day, Saphala means success. On this day, Lord Vishnu is worshiped by his followers in the hope of success, wealth, and good fortune.
