Shri Santoshi Maa Vrat Katha
There was an old woman, who had seven sons, 6 were earners and one did not earn anything. The old woman cooks 6’s kitchen, feeds, and gives whatever is left from them to the seventh.
One day he said to his wife- Look how much my mother loves me
The wife said – Yes, of course, she loves you that’s why she gives you the leftover food from your brother’s family.
He said it can’t happen unless I see with my own eyes I can’t believe it.
A few days later, a festival came to make seven types of food and laddoos in the house. He slept in the kitchen wearing thin clothes on his head, he kept watching everything from the clothes, all the brothers came to eat, he saw that the mother laid a beautiful posture for them, kept all kinds of food and called them.
When the brothers got up after eating, the mother picked up the pieces of leftover laddoos from their juthi plates and made a laddoo. After cleaning, the old mother called him and everyone has eaten food, when will you eat?
He said – Mother, I am not feeling hungry, I am going out.
Mother asked are you going today?
He said – Yes, I am going today and he left the house.
Before leaving he wanted to meet his wife. She was making kande (uple) in the cowshed.
He went and said – I am going out for a few days. I will come back soon. You take care of yourself and my family.
She said –Go and don’t worry about me. God will take care of me. Just give me one of your belongings.
He said I have nothing, but this ring so take it and give me one of your belongings
She said – I have nothing, it is a hand full of dung, she gave an impression of her hand on his back. He walked away, to another country.
There he saw a shop of moneylenders.
He went and said – Brother, I need a job. The moneylender also needed a boy. The moneylender kept him as a helper in his shop
He asked what would be my salary. The moneylender said that after seeing your work, you will get the price.
Now he started working from 7 am to 10 pm. In a few days, he started doing all the work well.
Seth saw the work and made him his partner. He became a very rich Seth in a few years and the owner left all the business to him.
On the other hand, his parents started hurting his wife by getting all the household work done and taking her wood in the forest.
Whatever husk comes out of the flour in the house, its bread was made and water was in the broken coconut. One day when she was going to get wood she saw many women fasting for Santoshi Mata.
She stood there and started listening to the story and asked dear sisters, which god are you all fasting for, and what is the result of doing it? Please make me understand the importance of this fast, I will be very grateful to you.
Then a woman said – This is the fast of Santoshi Mata, by doing this, poverty goes away and whatever we wish for is fulfilled by the grace of Santoshi Mata.
The woman said – Take 25-gram jaggery, listen to the story every Friday, and do udyapan when your wish is fulfilled.
On the way, she sold the bundle of wood and bought 25-gram jaggery from that money, and went ahead after preparing for the fast. Seeing the temple in front of her, she started asking – whose temple is this temple, everyone started saying that Santoshi Mata’s temple, after hearing this, she went to the temple and touched Mata’s feet and started pleading, Mother I am unaware, do not know any directives of fasting, I’m helpless| O Mother | Jagat Janani remove my sorrow, I am in your shelter|
The mother had great pity, the first Friday passed, the second Friday came her husband’s letter and thirdly, her husband sent her money, seeing this, Jeth-Jethani’swere shocked and started taunting her that now she has got money, now it will be very different. With tears in her poor eyes, Santoshi went to the mother’s temple and sat at the feet of the mother and started crying and said, mother, when did I ask for money?
What I will do with this money, I want my husband. I want to see my husband. Then the mother was pleased and said – Go daughter, your husband will come.
Hearing this, she happily went home and started working, now Santoshi Maa started thinking about this naive daughter, I told her husband will come but how? He doesn’t even miss her.
I have to go to remind him, in this way the mother went to the dream of the old woman’s son and started saying the moneylender’s son are you sleeping or awake. He said, “Mother I am not even sleeping, not even waking up, what is the commandment?” Mother said – Do you have a house and a family? He said – I have everything, parents, wife, I am content.
Maa said – Bhole your wife is suffering a lot, your parents are giving her trouble. She is longing for you, you take care of her. He said Yes, Maa, I know, but how do I go there?
Maa said – Listen to me, take shower in the morning and take the name of Santoshi Mata, light a ghee lamp and go to the shop. Soon you will be out of all your debts, all the goods will be sold, and by evening there will be a pile of money. In a short time, the customers purchased all the goods.
By evening, the pile of money was collected and he was very happy to see this miracle of Maa Santoshi and started buying clothes, and jewelry took everything, and left for his village house. On the other hand, his wife goes to the forest to get wood. While returning, she was resting in Mata Ji’s temple
Every day she used to rest in the temple, suddenly there was a storm, she asked Mata – Maa, what is happening!
Maa said – Dear daughter, your husband is coming, now you prepare three piles of wood, keep one on the banks of the river and put the other in my temple and the third on your head.
Seeing you with a bundle of wood, your husband will be infatuated, he will stay here with you, eat breakfast, and then he will go to meet his mother. Then you carry the load of wood, go to your house and keep the bundle down and make call your mother-in-law in a louder voice.
Take a bundle of wood, give husk bread, and water in a coconut pot, who has come as the guest today?
Saying ok to Santoshi Maa, she did the same.
So her husband came. Seeing the dry wood, he wished that we should take this rest and eat food and then go to the village. They rested and went to the village. At the same time, she comes with a bundle of wood on her head. Taking the burden of wood into the courtyard, she makes a loud sound – Mother-in-law, take this bundle of wood, give husk bread. See who has come as a guest today?
Hearing this, her mother-in-law comes out and asks her to forget her sufferings – why is bahu saying this? Your husband has come. Come and eat, and wear clothes and jewelry. Hearing her voice, her husband comes out.
He gets distraught to see the ring. He asks his mother, “Mother, who is this?” Mother said- Son, she is your wife. Ever since you have gone, she wandered all over the village. Does not help with housework or anything, comes at four o’clock and eats. He said- Okay mother I saw her and you too, now give me the key to another house, I will stay there.
Mother said- Okay, then she opened the room on the third floor of the second house and decorated it. In one day, it became like a king’s palace. His wife was happy and began to enjoy happiness. So came Friday.
He said to the husband- I have to observe the fast of Santoshi Mata. The husband said- Do it happily. She began to prepare for udyapan. Jethani’s boys went for food. Jethani told his children, to ask for amchur powder at the time of food so that udyapan will be incomplete.
The boy went to eat kheer and filled his stomach, but as soon as he ate, he started saying – give us amchur powder, we will not eat kheer. She can’t give amchur powder. This is the prasad of Santoshi Mata.
The boys got up, and said- Give us money, naive daughter-in-law did not know anything and gave them money. The boys started eating tamarind at the same time. Seeing this, Mataji got angry at the daughter-in-law.
The king’s messengers took away her husband. Jeth said to Jethani – He had brought money by looting, and now he will feel disabled when he will be beaten and killed in jail. His wife cannot tolerate this.
She went to the temple crying, and said- Maa, what did you do, first you filled my life with happiness, and now making your devotee cry.
Maa said- Daughter, you have broken my fast by doing udyapan. She asked- Maa, what crime have I committed, I had given money to the boys by mistake, forgive me. I will do your udyapan again.
Maa said- Be careful now.
She says- Now there will be no mistake, but how my husband will come now?
Maa said- Go, your husband will find you coming in the way. She went out and found her husband on the way. He asked, “Where did you go?”
He told her – The king asked for the tax of the money he has earned, and he went to pay. Listening to this, she was happy and said, let’s go back home. A few days later came Friday again.
She said- I have to worship Maa again. The husband said, “Do it. The wife then went to ask Jeth’s boys for food. Jethani again told her son not to eat kheer and ask for amchur powder.
The boys started saying before the meal – we do not like to eat kheer, give us some amchur powder. She said- No one will get amchur powder, if you want to go without eating food, you can go,
Then she invited Brahmin’s boys and started feeding them, giving them fruit instead of Dakshina. Santoshi Mata was pleased.
Mother was pleased, in the ninth month, she got a beautiful son. After getting the son, she started going to the mother’s temple every day.
Mother thought – she comes every day, so why not go to her house today? Thinking this, the mother made a terrible form, the face stained with jaggery and gram, the lips like the trunk above, the flies were buzzing on it.
As soon as she reached their house, her mother-in-law shouted – Look, a witch is coming, boys take her out, otherwise she will eat someone. The boys started running away, shouting and closing the window. The daughter-in-law was looking through the light, and suddenly she started shouting happily – Today my Maa has come to my house. She stops the baby from drinking milk.
In the meantime, the mother-in-law got angry. She said, “What’s happened?” Slammed the child. In the meantime, the boys started appearing with the glory of the mother.
She said- Maa, the one I fast for is Santoshi Mata. Everyone grabbed mata ji’s feet and started pleading – O Maa, we are naive, we have committed a big mistake forgive us.
Thus the mother was pleased. Maa blessed daughter-in-law, may everyone’s wishes be fulfilled.
